Care Home Friends started as a local a project in the London Borough of Richmond in 2015 and is run by charity Embracing Age.
Following the success of Care Home Friends in Richmond, in 2016, the project was a joint winner of the Cinnamon Project Lab, a national competition looking for ambitious church-based social action projects that could be replicated across the UK.
In 2017, we had our second project go live, the Times heard about the project, and featured it in their newspaper and at Premier's Love Britain and Ireland awards, Care Home Friends was the runner up in the category for older people.
In 2018, we're expecting another 6 projects to go live, with training happening for at least a dozen more.
"I have been inspired to hear of the work of Care Home Friends. It is a simple but brilliant idea to connect churches with Care Homes. Elderly people have so much to give, and such links promise to bring real benefit to those who visit, elderly people who often value more human contact, and the churches themselves, as a way of demonstrating the love of Christ for people whatever their age."
The Rt Revd Dr Graham Tomlin, Bishop of Kensington
