Care home residents, and those receiving home care are some of the most frail and vulnerable people on the Isle of Wight. Dedicated carers are putting their lives on the line, looking after these older folk with a limited supply personal protective equipment, like masks. The spread of coronavirus in a care home can have devastating consequences, as we are seeing on the news.

Over 34,000 PPE items delivered so far!
Since the height of the pandemic we have been distributing PPE across the Isle of Wight, to help protect care staff and shield the most vulnerable. We have given out over 34,500 items of PPE including masks, gloves, aprons, shoe protectors and hand gel. We couldn't have done this without the generosity of many people and organisations including Wight Aid, HIWCF, Hovertravel, Southern Electric, Mailforce. We are also very grateful to the four distribution hubs across the Island, supported by Island volunteers: the West Wight Community Centre, Community Action at the Riverside Centre, Medina Bookshop in Cowes and our Care Home Friends Champion, Barbara Sargent in Ryde.
The government has now said it will be providing PPE to care homes free of charge during the pandemic, but we are aware that there may still be gaps in provision. We are maintaining a stock of PPE to distribute as needed to plug those gaps.
If you are a care home, a private carer, a domicilliary care provider in need of free PPE, or just need PPE for someone vulnerable please do get in touch. help@wightmaskask.com
